CIBA is a Swiss company that manufactures chemicals
and dye for the textile and auto industries. Although based in Switzerland,
Ciba has production facilities and a major presence in 70 countries
around the world.
As a Swiss company, Ciba initially thought that the
Euro wouldn't have a major impact and that it was just one other
currency to deal with. But after reading through the regulations,
the Ciba staff realised that triangulation was an issue after all,
as about 30% of Ciba business is in Europe. "We realised that
we had to do something," explains Pam Heissenbuttel, "we
couldn't sit back and let the Euro happen."
"Millennium approached us and we quickly saw that
they were quite in tune with the business needs and the business
requirements of the Euro," Pam says. "We felt that if
we could partner with Millennium, it would be a win-win situation
for everybody, and in hindsight it was a very successful relationship."
From a technical view-point, EM4 sits on top of BPCS
and doesn't change the core package. The software is designed in
such a way that it fits in to the BPCS scope and there is very little
that the users have to know, its very quick and very simple. EM4's
installation did not require much technical know-how from Ciba's
staff. The process was straightforward. Ciba implemented in the
time frame required and saw the proof in January 1999, when they
started billing customers in Euro.
